The Bio Said 'Tall'

His dating profile said 6'2". The man who walked in was not 6'2". His opening line saved the evening.

How it started

I'm five foot ten, and I'd had enough of men who looked shocked when I stood up. So I filtered strictly: six foot or taller. His profile said six foot two, and his photos were all cleverly cropped. I arrived at the bar early, ordered a drink and watched the door. In walked a man who was, generously, five foot six. He saw me, took a breath, came straight over and said: 'I lied about my height so you'd meet me. Let me buy you dinner and prove it was worth it.' I was furious for about four seconds, and then I started laughing because it was the most honest dishonest thing I'd ever heard.

Then it happened

He was hilarious, sharp, kind to the waiter and a great listener. By dessert I'd forgotten about the height and was annoyed that I'd forgotten. We've been together eight months. I wear heels on purpose now, and he stands on the step at photos with total confidence. He also turned out to be a brilliant cook, which felt like the universe making a point. My friends still tease me about the filter. I've deleted it.

The morning after

Her friends demanded a full debrief over cocktails and still can't believe she forgave the fake height. He now introduces himself at parties as 'the liar who won'. She has quietly removed the height filter from her profile, and keeps the screenshot of the original bio as evidence.
