Married Six Weeks After the Match
A Tinder bio asking for weekly vodka led to a wedding at a replica Parthenon. Six weeks later.
How it started
Writing for xoJane, later republished by TIME, Jasmine Wilkes Gordon describes being a few months out of a long relationship and deeply cynical about dating. After a rough stretch on another app, she decided she'd settle for men she could 'tolerate on a semi-regular basis' and wrote a Tinder bio saying she only wanted someone to buy her vodka once a week. Four hours later she matched with a long-haired guitarist from one of Nashville's thrash metal bands. They texted for hours and found they had everything in common, from obscure bands to lifestyle. Eighteen hours after the first message, she took a long lunch break, drove across town shaking with nerves, and fell into the arms of a man who was even better looking than his photos.
Then it happened
They barely spent a night apart afterwards. A month in, he took her to meet his family; on the drive home he proposed and she shrieked 'no'. That night at a metal show he asked again and she said yes. They married at Nashville's Parthenon replica, partied downtown in their wedding clothes and ate at Waffle House at dawn.
The morning after
The secret marriage lasted a grand total of twenty-eight hours before they announced it on Facebook. Friends were shocked, a few were openly worried, and her mother simply asked what took so long. She wrote that the chemistry made them late for work so often it was practically a scandal.
