Same Gym, New Abs

Her ex joined her gym to 'accidentally' run into her. It did not go the way he hoped.

How it started

When we broke up, I needed somewhere to put all that energy, and I put it in the gym. Six days a week for a year. Weights, classes, a trainer named Bea who believed I could deadlift a small car. Then one Monday I walked in and there he was at reception, signing up, wearing brand new trainers with the tags practically still on. My friend later found out he'd been asking around where I trained. He wanted to bump into me, look effortlessly fit and see if there was still something there. I nearly turned around and walked straight back out. Then I remembered whose gym it actually was.

Then it happened

He turned around just as I finished a set, saw me, and dropped a dumbbell on his own foot. Loudly. Bea had to help him to a bench. He limped out with an ice pack and, according to the receptionist, cancelled his membership by Friday. I set a personal best that afternoon. I later heard he told mutual friends the floor was slippery. It wasn't. Bea framed the receipt.

The morning after

Word spread through the gym within a day. The receptionist told the yoga class, the yoga class told the spin class, and by Friday everyone knew about the dumbbell. Bea now refers to it as 'the incident'. He has started running outdoors, as far away as possible.
