Housekeeping Has Seen Everything
She left her toy charging on the hotel nightstand. Housekeeping gave it the spa treatment.
How it started
I was on a work trip and I'd brought my favourite toy, obviously. On the second morning I rushed out to a meeting and left it plugged in on the nightstand, in full view, like a little trophy. Halfway through my first coffee I remembered and went cold. All day I imagined housekeeping laughing about room 412. I seriously considered moving hotels. When I finally got back that evening, I opened the door with one eye closed. I pictured the cleaning cart, the radio chatter, my room number whispered from floor to floor. I wrote a mental apology note, then a second one. By lunchtime I'd decided I would simply check out a day early and never return to that city.
Then it happened
The room was spotless. The toy had been cleaned, the cable neatly coiled, and both were laid on a folded white towel next to a chocolate and a fresh flower, like a spa treatment. I left a big tip and a note that said 'thank you for your discretion'. Five stars. Would forget again. The next morning there was a second chocolate.
The morning after
On her last morning, she found a handwritten note from housekeeping wishing her a pleasant onward journey and a lovely stay next time. She has been back to the hotel twice since and is convinced the staff all know. They are flawlessly polite about it.
