The Underdog Wins
She was sure the big fancy toy would be her favourite. The tiny afterthought won.
How it started
When I finally decided to buy my first toy, I went big. Research, reviews, comparison charts. I chose the premium one with eleven settings, an app and a price tag I won't repeat. At checkout I added a tiny, inexpensive bullet because it was on offer and I felt I should round up for free shipping. Both arrived on the same day. I was honestly a bit nervous about the big one, which looked like it needed a pilot's licence. The small one was cute, simple and the size of a lipstick. The bullet had one button and no app, and I nearly didn't open it.
Then it happened
The big one was fine, impressive but a lot. The little one was perfect. Easy to use, quiet, didn't need an app or a manual. It's now the one I reach for every time, and the fancy one lives in a drawer. We're in a committed relationship now, the bullet and I. My friends now ask me for advice before they buy, and I always tell them the same thing: start small.
The morning after
Her best friend borrowed the expensive one and refused to give it back, calling it 'a gift'. The tiny bullet now travels with her everywhere. The fancy app still sends her push notifications. She ignores them all, smugly.
