Reply All, Regret All

She wrote a flirty email to the guy in Accounts. Then hit reply-all. To 340 people.

How it started

There's a guy in Accounts with excellent forearms and a habit of humming while he waits for the printer. For months I'd been working up the nerve to say something. Then he sent a company-wide email about expense deadlines, and I saw my chance. I replied with something I thought was witty and flirty: that I'd happily submit my receipts if he'd explain the policy over a drink. I pressed send and felt very proud of myself for ninety seconds. Then I noticed the recipient list: all 340 people in the company. My heart was thumping so loudly I worried my desk neighbour could hear it.

Then it happened

The replies began immediately. HR replied first, with one word: 'Bold.' Then the CEO sent a laughing emoji. Then, finally, he replied, also to everyone: 'Friday at 7?' The whole office cheered. We've been dating six months. The email is pinned in the company chat. Our first date was at a bar with terrible lighting and excellent wine. He brought a printed copy of my email and asked me to sign it. It's now framed in his flat.

The morning after

The email is still pinned in the company chat with a hundred and twelve reactions. HR has added a slide about reply-all to the onboarding deck. Accounts now hums when she walks past. They're moving in together next spring.
