Wrong Chat, Wrong Life
She sent a photo of her first toy's delivery box to her best friend. It went to the family group chat.
How it started
My first toy had finally arrived and I was very excited. I took a photo of the box, still unopened, and sent it to my best friend with the caption 'IT'S HERE 😈'. Except my best friend's chat sits directly below the family group chat, and my thumb slipped. Thirty-two family members, including two aunts, a priest-adjacent uncle and my eighty-four-year-old grandmother, received it. I watched the blue ticks appear in horror. I couldn't unsend it fast enough. My uncle reacted with a thumbs up before I could do anything. Two aunts started typing. I threw my phone on the bed and screamed into a pillow.
Then it happened
Grandma replied first: 'Good for you sweetheart, get the rechargeable one.' Then my aunt sent a thumbs up. My cousin sent a link. My dad left the group. Grandma has since asked twice whether I took her advice. I did. At the next family barbecue Grandma took me aside, patted my hand and told me about her first one, which apparently plugged into the wall and sounded like a lawnmower. I've never laughed so hard.
The morning after
The family group chat has never been more active. Two aunts asked for the link. A cousin shared a discount code. Grandma now sends weekly product recommendations. Dad has rejoined the group, but only on mute.
